M-real Digital imaging announces the launch of the silver digital range

M-real, Europe’s top fine paper producer, is launching silver digital; a consolidated range of papers, optimised for use on all HP Indigo digital offset colour presses and also Xeikon driven machines.

Developed in collaboration with machine manufacturers, M-real's fully coated papers have been certified for use on all of the HP Indigo presses by the Digital Academy in the UK.

The HP Indigo optimised sheets have a number of advantages over the original Silverblade Digital range. One of the key differences is the improved ElectroInk transfer from blanket to substrate, which allows for longer print runs with less downtime due to the necessity for less frequent blanket cleaning.

HP Indigo’s Substrate Manager, Yigal Raveh, confirms this fact, “Tests have shown that using silver digital on HP Indigo presses will result in a longer shelf life of blankets.”

ElectroInk adhesion has also improved, with absolute toner adhesion after less than 15 minutes allowing for immediate finishing; compared to competitor products, which can take between 12 – 24 hours for adhesion, that is, if adhesion occurs at all.

Specific benefits can also be seen on Xeikon machines, where the paper’s operating window is now much easier to set. The paper is currently being certified for Xeikon presses and its whiteness has also been improved to 125 CIE.

The silver digital range is an improved version of the Silverblade Digital range. With production of the matt, gloss and cast-coated qualities now centred at Zanders’ Bergisch Gladbach facility, M-real is able to offer the same high paper quality and standard as before, but now has the advantage of improvements in logistics and delivery. The installation of an additional converting and automatic packaging line has also enabled a significant increase in capacity, to fulfill the increased market demand for digital papers.

The silver digital range offers a variety of grades and weights across the two digital platforms, including:

silver digital supra – a special coated paper available in five grammages from 100 - 250 gm2, providing high volume and stiffness, perfect for direct mailers. The shade has been optimised for excellent reproduction of skin tones and warm colours.

silver digital matt – a matt coated paper with an elegant appearance. Available in a number of grammages ranging from 100 – 300 gm2, it will ensure outstanding results for all products for products such as books, brochures, calendars and catalogues. The product maintains the unique feature of the Silverblade Digital Matt, in that it has a low matt level, making it a true matt paper.

silver digital gloss – a gloss coated paper available in the same grammages as matt, but for high quality applications. This product has been improved by using a smoother base paper with better formation and also a more even and glossy coating formulation.

silver digital pure – an uncoated calendered paper, available in six grammages from 90 – 250 gm2. With a high whiteness and smooth printing surface, it is aimed at the direct mail market, for such applications as price lists and timetables. It is currently only available for Xeikon presses in reels of 320mm and 500mm in width.

silver digital supergloss – this superior quality cast coated paper is available in grammages of 80, 130, 160 and 250 gm2, but currently only for Xeikon machines, in reel widths of 320mm and 500mm.
