M-real's silver digital paper range receives certification

The silver digital range of coated papers from M-real Digital imaging has been certified for use on all HP Indigo sheet-fed digital presses, by the Digital Academy in the UK.

Dr. Papier, Head of R&D at M-real’s Technology Centre for Specialities, comments, "Recent developments in digital technology have placed increased demands on paper. To meet these we believe that only a paper which has been developed with a specific technology in mind can truly give the best printed results."

Many papers are used for digital printing, but certification is crucial, as not only does it provide the recognition that silver digital is a high quality paper, but it also guarantees that the paper will yield the best possible printed results, through meeting certain essential criteria, such as runnability, ink transfer and adhesion. Additionally, users can be confident in the fact that the paper has been optimised for their presses, resulting in less machine wear and problems such as dusting, caused by using non-certified paper.

The range offers a number of advantages over competitor products, one key difference being the exceptional ElectroInk transfer from blanket to substrate, which allows for longer print runs with less downtime through the need for less frequent blanket cleaning.

Due to silver digital’s ideal surface composition, ElectroInk adhesion has been optimised, with absolute adhesion after less than 15 minutes allowing for almost immediate finishing and converting; compared to competitor products, which can take between 12 – 24 hours. These two factors alone guarantee the fastest turnaround for print on demand orders. Additionally, optimised paper formation provides an even, smooth surface, improving feed and runnability through the press and ensuring the best print quality available.

Norbert Frenzel, infowerk AG, Germany, comments, "We use silver digital for all our digital print orders. This is partially due to the ElectroInk adhesion, which in my opinion is the best compared to all other digital papers."

The silver digital range ensures consistently sharp images and text with brilliant colours that are true to the original. Specifically developed for use with the HP Indigo Press 1000 series and HP Indigo Press 3000 series; the range offers a wide selection of grades and weights, for use across all digital printing applications:

Available in nine grammages, matt and gloss have been designed for use in any digital application, from plain text to brochure covers, and have a high whiteness of 125 CIE.

silver digital matt – a matt coated paper with an even, smooth surface; the product’s low gloss level makes it unique on the market, as it is a true matt paper. Printed text is sharp with good legibility, ensuring outstanding results for applications including books, brochures, calendars and catalogues.

silver digital gloss – a high gloss paper, with an extremely even gloss coating. Suitable for all marketing communications, it is especially viable for the production of high value brochures, product presentations and manuals.

silver digital supra – Providing high volume and stiffness, supra is perfect for direct mailers, greeting cards and postcards. One of the key attributes offered is high bulk, giving the feel of a higher grammage paper. This allows cost savings on stock and postage for direct mail activities, as a lower grammage paper can be used. The shade’s neutral whiteness has been optimised for excellent reproduction of skin tones and warm colours.

Giovanni Biancolini, ESA Italy, concludes, "We know we can rely on consistently excellent results from silver digital. From shift to shift it runs smoothly through the press, and the evenness of the paper and brilliant colour reproduction have never let us down."
